When stupid things occur

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

A few month ago, I did released to the world the domain fabienmannessier.com (I won’t give it a link as I feel stupid to give some point to the owner). I was really sure that nobody would ever have the idea of buying this domain, as it does not mean anything except my own name (and I am pretty sure we’re very few on this planet).

Well, this wasn’t counting on the fact that, as I had been posting quite a few posts on that blog, I had gotten a PageRank of 2. I have read a lot of PDFs about Internet Marketing and most authors recommend their clients that buying an old domain with a good PageRank is quite good. You avoid some work as your PageRank is already up.

I’m sure that when they write that, they think that their readers will at least take the effort to find a domain related to their subject. So, this how I think that everything occured and ended to the fact that I came to find that my name is now related to Entertainment and Movie Tickets. How hell has somebody thought that just the pagerank can help him/her get a good site for these topics.

I really think that stupid things occur on the Internet, and especially when related to Internet Marketing. Maybe author should always stand that the main component to success is: think! The result for this guy is as high as the pagerank: 0. Really stupid!

The power of Open Source

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Right at its beginning, nobody was believing in free software, as it sound impossible to sustain a profitable business with it. Well, that’s not true. There’s always a way to get something back.

I always wondered how some people get so much links back and get well indexed by google. They even get a pagerank that nobody believe it’s possible. The key is to do it with a theme. If you release a theme, for example for wordpress, most of the people won’t change the footer. So if you release your theme free and it’s valuable, you’ll get a lot of site with your theme on it and, more important, with a link back to your site.

You know the equation: links = trafffic = money. So move on, write your theme!

Another product from Michael Cheney

Monday, June 9th, 2008

One of the guys I have started with on Internet Marketing is called Michael Cheney. From him, I have learned about the Adsense Marketing and how to send huge traffic to a Website. And you know what? He knows about his stuff. Everything from these two products I have put in place have worked, it really works.

Now, he’s getting even more insane. He is throwing away a complete system, with no hidden cost. You just have to follow the steps watching the videos and it runs like fire. I have already bought it and it is amazing. It’s real money falling in your hands, but you have to hurry because as I’m writing this, there are just 48 hours left. Later, this product will have gone forever. So, assure NOW you place. Go on:

I’m on the way to sell my own product

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Don’t be fooled! I won’t start to sell it tomorrow, but the idea I’ve got to make my own product and start to sell it on the Internet is growing. All I can say is that its first version (say 0.0001, very alfa) is running on www.blogminisites.com and all its subsites.

By the way, today, I released 12 new sites. The start page of www.blogminisites.com is still very ugly. I do not have time by now to make it better. But anyway, it works. There, you have a link to all the sites I’ve put up in no time.

Categories or Tags?

Friday, May 30th, 2008

When you first set up your blog, with wordpress or whatever other platform, you’ll find yourself confronted to categories and tags. What’s the difference between both?

The way I like to refer to them is thinking of yourself in a office. Imagine your receive a memo. Then, you can do several things to find it fast or remember its subject. I would say that you would put that paper in the corresponding tray (incoming, urgent, to read later, ….). The important thing you should consider is that the memo cannot be in two of them. You must choose in which one to put it. I would say that it’s the same from the categories. Let’s say I have a blog where I post about Internet Marketing and Web Technologies. Normally, I would put most of the posts in one or the other. But as we are not in the physical world, we can, on some rare occasions, put one post in two categories.

One of the great invention in the office was the post-it. This way, you can write something and paste it to the memo. There’s no limit to the number. You can even arrange the post-its so that you can read them without getting the memo out of its tray. They help you remember in short words what is this memo about. The same occurs to your blog. You can put words (tags) that help you remember what is the post about.

Now, what is really neat in the computing world is that you can get all the memos which have a post-it with the same word, and fast. That’s the beauty of using tags and categories on your blog….

Tips and Advices

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

It’s back in the year 2000 when I first decided to get my first site on the Internet. It was not a blog but a site dedicated to the PHP language. I thought I had had the privilege to know about it back in that time and wanted to facilitate its spread in Latin America. These times have gone and I have abandoned that site. I think that now PHP is well known and used among students.

Then I decided to promote the Ruby Language (I still have the rubylandia.com DNS) and went all over the country to present it. Lately, I discovered the key to make sites popular. And I now think I have the opportunity to spread more knowledge about more topic to people.

And here it is my last try: the Tips and Advices Network. 49 sites about different topics. All running automatic. And they range from Acupuncture, to Voice over IP, or even Porcelain Dolls. What do you think?

Linking is the Key

Monday, May 26th, 2008

In the world of Internet Marketing, there is only one measurement: it’s traffic. It’s a math game; the more traffic, the more clicks; the more clicks, the more money. So, you have to find ways to get traffic. And, in that game, it seems that everybody is doing the same: they spam.

How much comments on my blog have I received telling me “Wonderful blog. Keep the good work” with a link back to their site? Dozens everyday. The thing is that akismet is really busy, hopefully, as it allows me not to get my mail filled up with spam. I know Google gives extra megs each day, but it would really be annoying.

So, when you know good tools, you want to keep them for you. It’s just because otherwise you have the feeling that everybody is then going to do the same and that you’ll loose on the long. Well, there are things that I should not do but want to share on this blog, as a gift to the rare people who are reading it. It’s that sort of tools you always wonder how it came that you discovered it, because it’s so powerful, so white hat you cannot believe it.

One of the tools I use is Link Vault. It’s really a great tool as it create links to your sites so smoothly that even Google believe it’s real. I know, I know. You just made a search and just found in the forums that some people complain because they lost Pagerank as soon as they used Link Vault. Well, I tell you; it’s because they DO NOT know how to use it!!!

I have discovered the way. It’s so easy….. But this, I’m not going to share. Well at least not so easily. Grab me a comment and I’ll see what we can do!

Can I setup a Social Bookmark?

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

One of the things that every Internet Marketer is always looking for is a way to provide traffic. We’re a lot of people navigating the Internet and there are millions of sites who want to catch our attention. On the other side, when you have a site, you find there are too much options. You would like to get more traffic.

One way to get traffic is to get links. You maybe know the whole story. The more links, the better search engine ranking, the more searches you appears as a solution, the more clicks, the more traffic. So everybody is looking for sites which gives them the ability to register and get links from their high Pagerank. These are not that much and are very saturated. In fact, so much saturated that some finally opt to cancel that service.

So, here comes an idea. Why not setup a social bookmark site myself? It does not look that complicated as it appears that there is an open source solution called Scuttle. I’ll certainly need to have a look one day.
