Forget about the bad times, oh yeah

A few month ago, I did released to the world the domain fabienmannessier.com (I won’t give it a link as I feel stupid to give some point to the owner). I was really sure that nobody would ever have the idea of buying this domain, as it does not mean anything except my own name (and I am pretty sure we’re very few on this planet).
Well, this wasn’t counting on the fact that, as I had been posting quite a few posts on that blog, I had gotten a PageRank of 2. I have read a lot of PDFs about Internet Marketing and most authors recommend their clients that buying an old domain with a good PageRank is quite good. You avoid some work as your PageRank is already up.
I’m sure that when they write that, they think that their readers will at least take the effort to find a domain related to their subject. So, this how I think that everything occured and ended to the fact that I came to find that my name is now related to Entertainment and Movie Tickets. How hell has somebody thought that just the pagerank can help him/her get a good site for these topics.
I really think that stupid things occur on the Internet, and especially when related to Internet Marketing. Maybe author should always stand that the main component to success is: think! The result for this guy is as high as the pagerank: 0. Really stupid!

Today, I found this post about Bill Gates. It concludes at Bill Gates’ lack of leadership and I strongly agree and admire more Steve Jobs than Bill. And it’s not about the traditional flame war about PCs and Macs or Windows against Linux or OSX. It’s a sort of fashion saying that Microsoft is bad at anything they do, that Windows is bad, that Outlook is bad, …. and everybody laugh but still continue to use Windows, Outlook, and on.
What really insterest me in this case is not the technical aspect. I don’t care if Windows is better than OSX: use the one that you fit with most and stop blaming. What insterest me are the people, the management they do and more important, their vision. The vision of Bill Gates is reported as “a PC on every desktop”, but I really think that there always have been a lack of vision if Microsoft but more a perpetual search for the opportunity that will bring the big bucks.
In the case of Steve Jobs, as you can hear on their joined interview at D5, he talks about coupling hardware and software. Gosh! I repeatedly watch that movie and always remember the face of Bill Gates, a sort of, “how this guy is so clever that he has understood it all?”. Windows and PC is about trying to run as much software as possible on as much electronics as possible, being PCs, smartphones or PDAs. In the case of Apple, the Mac, the iPod and now the iPhone is just about one software on one platform and they make it converge: OSX on macbooks, iPod Touch or iPhone. This is really clever: they change the world with revamping the same platform. Computing, music listening and telephony have been changed by Steve Jobs. I don’t feel as much excited talking about Bill Gates (he invented the green Start Button?).
Remember one of Steve Jobs’ phrase: “We’re here to put a dent in the universe. Otherwise, why else even be here?”. What’s your case?

Right at its beginning, nobody was believing in free software, as it sound impossible to sustain a profitable business with it. Well, that’s not true. There’s always a way to get something back.
I always wondered how some people get so much links back and get well indexed by google. They even get a pagerank that nobody believe it’s possible. The key is to do it with a theme. If you release a theme, for example for wordpress, most of the people won’t change the footer. So if you release your theme free and it’s valuable, you’ll get a lot of site with your theme on it and, more important, with a link back to your site.
You know the equation: links = trafffic = money. So move on, write your theme!

I won’t be able to post as often as I would like as I’m travelling a lot this week. I am taking a course on J2ME programming. It’s very interesting as it allows you to develop java applications that run on mobile devices. You can read a little bit more about the instructor: C. Enrique Ortiz.

Today, I watched the movie Pirates of the Silicon Valley. This is about Bill Gates and Steve Jobs and their start in the computing industry. I must confess that I think that these two guys have change the world like nobody else. Think of it! How would be your life without them both.
Once, I read that when you want to succeed, you should find somebody to be your example, a model. This does not mean that you would like to everything like him/her but you should know enough like to understand how he/she thinks. In my case, my choice goes to Steve Jobs. You can understand from the movie that Bill Gates was playing poker, and that he did its best bet with IBM, when he sold an operating system that he did not have.
On the contrary, Steve has always bet on innovation. This came with the Lisa Computer, later with the Apple II, the iMac, and lately with the Macbook Air and the iPhone. So, if you want to know more about him, like I do, I just found a site about Steve Jobs. It contains it all: biography, photos, videos, even photos of his jet. Wow!

I finally acheived it. It just finished to setup 144 blogs in 2 weeks. And that was a huge work. Post and verify 144 times 25 posts. That’s 3,600 in total. It’s phenomenal. Just imagine, if you would want to read them all, it would be something like 10 a day during a whole year.
What amazes me more is the broad variety of topics covered, some I did not even know about them. Did you know about Reiki? Or about Hoodia Diet? That’s a whole encyclopedia available in all the subsites of blogminisites.com. Check them!

Yes. That’s the number I’ve got. Is it good or bad? Well, Einstein told us that everything is relative. In my opinion, it’s a great number as I’ve not applied any strategy to it until now.
I just want to share actions and thoughts. And it’s a good exercise because when you read yourself back, you get retrospective. With that, you can say “Did I was thinking that way at that time?”. And this is good, because if now you think you should not have written or thought that way before, you’re not consistent.
Do you know what makes people successful? Consistency. If you ask them a question at the start of the year and then at the end, they will give you the same answer. If your opinion changes, it’s because maybe, at first, you made yourself an opinion without you having enough information. You should better have not expressed it then.
Anyway. A little more than 200 visitors for the first month isn’t bad. It’s really cool and makes me feel the adventure has to continue. So, let’s go on…

The fact that the new iPhone 3G has been presented on Monday is definitely a breaking news. Like said in the presentation, the iPhone has revolutionized what most people think of what is a mobile phone. But, for most of us, it’s a gadget. By qualifying it as a gadget, I mean it’s an expensive toy.
Well, it isn’t anymore. One of the big change on the iPhone is its price. Now, for a little less than $200, you can get one of 8Gb. Incredible!! But there are also a lot of interesting new features coming: applications will be easy to install (wasn’t it for hacked one?), and its availability on something like 70 countries.
My opinion is that Apple is just making legal what wasn’t before. You could not install apps, you could not have it in your country, you could not have it for a decent price. It seems that the customer get what he wants at the end. And I think that there will other big moves on iPhone in the next years. Apple will live thanks to that.
Now. Will I buy one? I still do not know. I was very excited on Monday but, from what I’ve read, it seems that there will be other chains: activation done at the store. I do not believe I’ll buy a $200 phone that will make me pay $1,200 to a carrier for the next year. Certainly not!
And this drive me to the fact that I’m not sure that the new version of the iPhone will be a success. Jailed iPhone will never be. And I’ve not read anything that drives me to confident that this new one will not be. On the contrary. I think Apple will be something permissive for carrier to jail people with contracts. I hate that! But it’s a tradition in Apple. Can’t Mac OSX run on any laptop? Of course it can, but they do not want to. Could the iPhone be free of any chain? Of course it could, but, again, Apple do not want.
